Emerald Coast OBGYN is proud to offer da Vinci assisted gynecologic surgery. Thanks to a breakthrough surgical technology, there is a new category of minimally invasive surgery for which you may be a candidate. It is an effective, minimally invasive alternative to both open surgery and laparoscopy. Through the use of the da Vinci® Surgical System, surgeons are now able to offer a minimally invasive option for complex surgical procedures including hysterectomies that might otherwise require an open abdominal incision. Most patients who undergo daVinci hysterectomy are able to go home the same day as the surgery. For more information please discuss with one of our providers. Dr. Sam Wolf

da Vinci My Story
For any woman facing a hysterectomy, the da Vinci method is the only way to go and Dr. Sam Wolf at Emerald Coast Obstetrics was fantastic!
If I had known how minimally invasive, how little pain and how quick the recovery time would be, I would have had this procedure done much sooner.
Dr. Wolf explained everything and my husband and I felt well prepared and comfortable with what to expect. I had my surgery at 11:30 A.M. and I was home with my husband's help that evening! The hardest part was trying to be careful not overdo it when I got home, because I felt so great!
I had my surgery on Thursday, went out to lunch and worked a little bit the following Monday. I only have three little scars on my stomach and they fade even more as time goes on.
For anyone facing a hysterectomy, I cannot imagine having any other procedure than the da Vinci, or any other surgeon than Dr. Wolf.
Do your homework. Get second opinions if you are not comfortable with the information you are getting from your physician. For me, choosing the da Vinci was a no brainer. My surgeon had more than forty da Vinci procedures under his belt, and he instructs other physicians on how to use the machine. That gave me a lot of confidence that things would work out ok for me.
I also gave him permission to video the procedure while he was doing it. I have not got that video from him yet. However, when I do I would like to post it on the internet and let him use it for training. It might be of help for patients to see what the procedure looks like while it is being done. I found a video of the procedure on YouTube.com and it sure helped me to see it for myself. It's good to know and see what it is exactly they are going to do to you.Vivian
